Poliwag Panic! [Today Is The Day Pt. II]

[Shun Oak]

Shun waited in silence, soon, signaling Squirtle to jump into the cool river water. The turtle Pokemon dived into the water, slowly creeping up on the Poliwag, that Shun has set his sights on. Soon, the silence broke: "Squirtle come out of the water, use your agility, then use Tail Whip on Poliwag!" Shun said, as Squirtle sprang from the water in a fearsome yet majestic way as if a wave of some sort suddenly was created in the river, as Squirtle brung his tail down towards Poliwag.

"Poli!" The suprised Pokemon said, soon dodging the Squirtle's attack. "Poli-wag!" The tadpole said as he used Dive, soon, jumping into the river. "Squirtle, go after him!" He said, as Squirtle jumped into the river, soon, looking around. "Poli-Poli-wag!" As Poliwag used Bubbles as it then blew beautiful yet deadly water bubbles at Squirtle underneath the water as they started connecting with Squirtle's body, water shoot upwards from the river as Squirtle came flying up.

"Squirtle..! Come down and use Bite!" He said, Squirtle came down as Poliwag sat underneath water still as Squirtle suddenly burst through the water, soon, biting away at Poliwag. It wasn't really effective, seeing that Poliwag's skin, thought thin, was also flexible. Poliwag soon used Tail Whip, pushing Squirtle away from itself as it then looked angrily. "Poliwag!" It said, fiercely, as it then rushed Squirtle with a barrage of tail whips as Squirtle was helpless. Soon, in a blinding rage, Squirtle soon grabbed Poliwag, soon, tail whipping him back in the same manner.

Poliwag backed up as he then resorted to Bubble again, as Squirtle soon went into his shell as the Bubbles caused less damage on him. Squirtle sat in his shell as it then began spinning very quickly in a circle as Squirtle flung himself at Poliwag; Connecting with powerful force behind it as the Poliwag yelped in pain, flying out of the water.

Squirtle came out behind as Poliwag came back to; Soon, looking at Squirtle.. "Poli-Poli-Poli... wag!" It said, as it then used Hypnosis; Besides being a Water-type Pokemon, Poliwag is also capable of psychic abilities. Squirtle looked deep into the eyes of Poliwag as he then fell into a deep sleep. "Squirtle.. No!" Shun yelled, as Poliwag soon after putting Squirtle to sleep, used Bubble to knock him onto land, defeating him. He then replaced himself on land, looking at Shun, ferociously.

"Whoa.. Calm down.." Shun said, waving his hands back and forth, scared of what the Poliwag may do to him. "Poli-wag!" It said, soon, using Hypnosis again; Targeting Shun this time as it put the trainer straight to sleep.

Many hours later...

The sound of many yelling "Poliwag!" was heard everywhere around Shun and his Squirtle. They were tied up. Shun struggled as he then looked around; They were surrounded by fellow Poliwags, the 1st evolved form of the Poliwag, the Poliwhirls, and the last evolved forms of the Poliwhirls, Politoeds and Poliwrathss. They chanted and screamed as Squirtle soon awoke; In rage, he moved around, trying to get free also.

"Poliwrath.." A Poliwrath came from out of the crowd of Poliwag community; He was leader of this family of Poliwags. "Poli-Poli-wrath..!" He said, angrily, the giant Poliwrath stood a couple feet higher then Squirtle. Squirtle yelled back at him in Pokemon. The Poliwrath had asked them why Shun and Squirtle attacked his brethren and what was their goal if they were to defeat the Poliwag. Squirtle then answered the Poliwrath, saying that Shun and himself would use him to go on amazing journeys so Shun could become the first Pokemon trainer and master of his family.

Poliwrath found this reasoning selfish in every little way, soon, using a weak Water Gun from its belly-mouth to shoot Shun in the face. Shun then began to flip out: "Wait a second! You want to fight, punk! Me and Squirtle will give you the fight of a lifetime.. Right, Squirtle!?" He said, looking at Squirtle, he sat with a depressed look on his face. He thought about how the Poliwag beat him with no ease; Squirtle felt it was because he knew no Water-based attacks well yet. Shun then looked at him, worried: "Squirtle,.?" Squirtle soon snapped out of it, cockily yelling at the Poliwrath. Poliwrath laughed as he untied Squirtle; "Poli-wrath, poli-poli-wrath.." In english, the Poliwrath explained that he would set Squirtle up in a ceremonial fight against the same Poliwag.. If Squirtle wins, him and Shun have the right to catch the Poliwag apon defeat.. If they lose, the Poliwrath, himself, gets to drown Shun the river.

Squirtle, though scared, agreed to the battle. Poliwrath soon raised his hand, soon speaking to his brethren, as they then cheered, loudly. They then moved the fight to the sight where Squirtle lost the first time, the river. They brought Shun so he could guide Squirtle but they left him tied up, for betting reasons. "Squirtle.. Are you sure you want to do this?" Shun said, looking at his friend. Squirtle nodded; The Poli-Family stood on the other side of the river as they called the Poliwag that beat Squirtle the first time out to the front. He walked out, his little pink lips smiling, as his face became serious. "Poli-Poli.." The Poliwrath said, starting the countdown. "Poli.. wrath!" He said, starting the match. As the two Water-types went into the river, at the same time.

The two Water-type Pokemon stared each other down underneath water. Everything was quiet, Poliwag soon broke the silence: "Poli-Poli-wag!" He said, soon, shooting Bubbles at Squirtle. Shun, though he couldn't see them, knew the sound effects of certain attacks that this particular Poliwag used.. "Dangit.. Squirtle dodge it and use Tail Whip..!" Shun said, Squirtle moved around the bubbles, soon, tail whipping Poliwag, who flew back about 5 or 6 feet. Poliwag caught its balance as it then pushed it tail very hard in the water, projecting himself at Squirtle. "Poli-wag..!" He said, soon headbutting Squirtle, who went deeper into the river.

Shun panicked as he then began to think; "Squirtle get away from Poliwag and use Agility to jump out of the water.." He said, as Squirtle heard his command from the depths of the river as he then swam past Poliwag, jumping into the air at a amazing 25 ft. in the air. Poliwag surfaced, looking for Squirtle. Soon, looking up the small turtle was above Poliwag, who then saw him go into his shell, soon spinning in mid-air. "Squirtle.. New attack! Use Shell-Shock!" Shun said, smiling, as the Squirtle came flying out of the air, as the Poliwag's eyes enlarged. A huge splash of water occured after Squirtle smacked the water and Poliwag, this caused major damage to the Pokemon.

Squirtle also took damage, as the two began sinking to the bottom of the river. Shun then began yelling; "Squirtle.. I believe in you..! Remember when you weren't skilled at using Dig..? Well, you learnt it and your amazing at it..! Squirtle, your my buddy and I won't give up on you.." Shun said, as Squirtle jumped up, soon, his feet hit the bottom of the river. Poliwag stood a few feet away from him. "I believe in you for this, Squirtle.. Use Bubble!" Shun commanded, as Squirtle's mouth foamed with bubbles, as he brought his head back and let a barrage of bubbles from his mouth, they glistened beautifully, but, soon became deadly weapons as the hit Poliwag several times.

Poliwag fell backwards as he then felt the pain flow through his body, the same pain that Squirtle felt awhile back. "Don't hesitate, Squirtle..! Use Tackle!" He said, as Squirtle soon after tackled Poliwag to the bottom of the river. Sand flew everywhere, as Squirtle was atop of the tadpole, looking him dead in the eyes, then, he then headbutted Poliwag as it soon passed out.

The enraged Poliwrath saw his brethren was defeated; "Poli-wrath!" He said, soon jumping into the water. A exhausted Squirtle sat apon the Poliwag, as he then felt a sharp pain go through his body, looking over to see that Poliwhirl hit him with a powerful Water Gun attack. "Poli-wrath!" He said, as Squirtle then looked up. The Poliwrath spoke: "Poli-Poli-wrath!" saying in english that Squirtle would pay for what he did to the Poliwag today. Squirtle stood in defense as he looked at Poliwrath knowing that he would have to fight yet again.

Soon, a Politoed jumped into the water, grabbing the inactive Poliwag as a new battle was about to commence. Squirtle was exhausted, he felt like he wasn't about to beat this Poliwrath, he felt that this was the end of the road for him and Shun already.. Squirtle closed his eyes soon going into flashbacks of him and his partner, Shun.

He then reopened his eyes, soon, rushing the Poliwrath with a tackle, he moved the Poliwrath barely, as it then elbowed him down to the sandy bottom of the river. "Poli-wrath!" He said, as his body looked at a cannon of some sort as he let lose a powerful Bubblebeam, as Squirtle saw it coming his way. From Poliwrath's point of view, the bubbles seemed like they hit the Squirtle; As the sand cleared, Squirtle was gone.

He looked around frantically, as Squirtle came from Poliwrath's left using Shell Shock to stun him and cause damage as spinned vigorously in the side of this giant tadpole pokemon. The Poliwrath soon grabbed Squirtle, pressing his hands against the shell as it began to slow down.

Squirtle was slowed down as Poliwrath punted him back to the surface of water, Squirtle flew through the air, soon, landing on the surface. Poliwrath came from the glistening water while his brethren cheered for him to end it; He smiled, as he then royally put on hand up; "Poli-poli-wrath..!" Saying that the Poli-Family rained supreme today over this simple Squirtle and his trainer.." The Politoed held the Poliwag as he cheered along with the rest of the Polis. He then feed the Poliwag some herbal berries to help his pain.

Poliwrath looked down apon Squirtle, soon grabbing him by the neck, as he then cocked his arm back, ready to use his DynamicPunch attack. Squirtle opened on eye, as he saw Shun looking on in horror. In Squirtle's head, he couldn't let Shun down, he couldn't let the past Squirtles down, he couldn't let the Oak Family down; Squirtle then used Bubble, as he smacked the Poliwrath dead off in the face, soon, getting away from him.

Shun smiled as he then saw that they had a chance. "Squritle use agility! and come down using Shell Shock!" He said, as the Squirtle did no hesitating as he flung himself into the air, withdrawing into his shell, soon, coming down apon Poliwrath as dust and debris flew everywhere.

It grew quiet as everyone waited for the dust to clear.

Shun closed his eyes as debris flew everywhere. It soon cleared.. Squirtle stood tall, so was Poliwrath. Soon, a sharp pain went through Poliwrath's body; "Poli.." He said, as his eyes spiraled, signaling that he just passed out, soon falling to the ground. "Squirtle! You did it..!" He said, as Squirtle soon passed out himself.

Many minutes later, the Politoed who helped the little Poliwag untied Shun. Shun stood up and stretched for a second, soon running to his partner's side. "Squirtle.. You fought hard today.. You pushed it to the limit and now we created a new move and you learn Bubble.." He said, smiling at his friend as he held Squirtle in his arms. The Politoed soon tugged on Shun's shirt, handing him a herbal healing berry. Shun smiled, taking it and feeding it to his Squirtle.

Squirtle then regained his strength slowly as he jumped out of Shun's arms, soon walking over to Poliwrath, who was being feed berries. Squirtle then began to speak; "Squirt-squirtle.." Squirtle said, saying that Poliwrath gave him the match of a lifetime and he pushed him to his limits.. And he thanked him. Poliwrath stood up, soon putting his hand out to shake Squirtle's; "Poli-wrath.." He said, smiling, he respected Squirtle's sportmanship even though they were about to try and kill Shun.

Squirtle shook hands with him as the little Poliwag approached Shun, then, smiling with its pink lips. "Well, here goes nothing.." He said, pulling out his shiny pokeball soon tossing it at Poliwag. It hit it then as it went inside of the ball as a red arua absorbed it into as the ball hit the ground. It shaked.. shaked.. shaked.. shaked.. shaked.. Ping! The ball stopped moving. Shun then picked it up. "Yes! I caught a Poliwag!" Shun said, holding the ball in his hand, yelling it to the world.

Shun then releases the Poliwag from the PokeBall as he came out in a bliss of glitter. Poliwag then approached the Grandmaster Poliwrath, soon, bowing to him respect as he then gave him a pat on the head. Poliwag then looked back towards Shun and Squirtle; "Poli-wag..!" He said, running and jumping in Shun's left arm, Squirtle being in the right. "Two Pokemon so far.. Now, we need to move to the closest Pokemon Center so we can video-message my Dad.."

Shun turnt to the smiling Poli-Family; "Nice knowing you, Poli-Family.. We'll take care of Poliwag and make it a powerful Poliwrath or Politoed.." Shun s

aid, smiling. They moved northern from the Pallet Town river; The three moved on a steady route moving towards Pewter Gym. Shun felt like his team was really coming together well; Pewter City Gym contained some of the most rock PokeMon in the Kanto region; But, Water overpowers Rock, so does Grass, Ground, Fighting, and Steel type Pokemon. Luckily, Shun did his research before he left home.

He then took out his PokeDex, then checking what Pokemon were now in there current area. The PokeDex then began to scan the area as it then pinged, soon speaking to Shun. "There are several ground-types in the area.. The closest pokemon right now is.." The PokeDex began scan.. Ping! "The closest pokemon is Sandshrew, the mouse pokemon; SANDSHREW's body is configured to absorb water without waste, enabling it to survive in an arid desert. This POKéMON curls up to protect itself from its enemies." The Dex said, as Shun replaced it in his bag as he then looked at Poliwag, who was exhausted from walking. "Poliwag, you look beat.. Return!" He said, pulling out his PokeBall as he then replaced him the ball.

"I guess for now, it's me and you, Squirt.." He said, walking the now rough plains, getting closer to Pewter City.

Shun walked the tough and rugged terrain of the now Sandy plains. "It's getting sandy in this area.. We must be close to a Sandshrew.." He said, then, kicking the sand a bit. "Sand!" A creature's voice said as Shun accidentally kicked it, mistaking it for sand. Shun jumped back, Squirtle stepped infront of him. "What was that..?" Shun and Squirtle looked on a small mouse Pokemon soon stood up, yawning a bit, then blinking with its glistening blue eyes. "It's a Sandshrew!" Shun said, soon smiling. "Catch number two ready to commence.. Squirtle, you ready?!" He said, soon smiling at his partner. "Squirt-squirtle!" Squirtle said; The Sandshrew look confused as he looked on at the two beings who disturbed its nap.

"Squirtle use Bubble..!" Shun said, as Squirtle brought his head back as he then shot a barrage of glistening bubbles at Sandshrew. Soon noticing what was happening, Sandshrew rolled into his defensive ball; Sandshrew was also a half armadillo PokeMon. The moves shot off of Sandshrew's protective skin as it then rolled from out of the ball. Soon, after the now enraged Sandshrew kicked sand into Squirtle's eyes.. This move was called Sand Attack. Soon, after attacking Squirtle with a Quick Attack, hitting him and smacking him around; Sandshrew kicked Squirtle away from him, soo using Slash, using its claws to scratch Squirtle badly as Squirtle was soon launched away into the air, soon landing in to a tree.

"Darnit.. Poliwag, I guess we have to use you know.." Shun said, pulling out Poliwag's Pokeball as he then tossed it into the air, in a glittery entrance, Poliwag made his way out onto the field. Shun then pulled out the PokeDex to look at all of Poliwag's moves and abilities. "Okay, Poliwag.. Use Bubblebeam!" Shun said, pointing at the Sandshrew, as Poliwag stumbled a bit, letting loose a barrage of even bigger bubbles that can cause more damage then Squirtle's simple Bubbles.

Sandshrew then retreated back into its defensive ball, the bubblebeam bouncing right off of his shielded body. Soon, rolling back out of his defensive position, he then smacked Poliwag with a quick Headbutt, sending him backwards, stunning him a bit. Soon after, the Sandshrew brought his left arm back, slashing Poliwag with Slash, sending him into Squirtle. The two Pokemons laided next to each other, soon after the other landed on top of him; Squirtle and Poliwag reawoke with anger in their eyes.

Shun then placed his hand on his chin, then beginning to think out a strategy on how to catch this Sandshrew; "Sandshrew uses his defensive ball ability to stop Poliwag and Squirtle's moves.. It even withstood Poliwag's Bubblebeam.. I must work around his shell and mentally crack it open.." Shun said, within his mind. "Squirtle.. use agilty then use Shell Shock..!" Shun said, as his Squirtle jumped into the air, soon withdrawing into his shell and spinning down from the sky as he hit Sandshrew, who was still in the protection of his skin shield.

Sandshrew soon came out of his defensive position as himself and Squirtle held on to each other, trying to overpower the other. Shun smiled, as his plan was coming together; "Poliwag use Bubblebeam!" Shun said, as Poliwag executed a backflip, letting lose his powerful bubbles at high speed, seeing that Sandshrew was focused on Squirtle, it connected with such beauty as they hit Sandshrew, with a glittering finish, sending him flying backwards.

Sandshrew held himself, seeing that Water-type moves are super effective on Ground-type PokeMon. As Sandshrew fell down, Shun then pulled out his PokeBall; "Go Pokeball..!" He said, tossing it at Sandshrew. The ball hit him as he was absorbed by the red arua, going inside of the PokeBall. The ball fell to the ground.. It shaked.. It shaked.. It shaked.. Then, Sandshrew came out of the ball again. "What..?!? I didn't catch him.." An enraged Shun said, seeing that the second catch was unsuccessful.

"How did that happen..? He was down for the count..!" Shun said, as the Sandshrew turnt his attention back on Squirtle and Poliwhirl. "Sand.. shrew.." He said, soon, in a barrage of angry Slashes, attack Squirtle and Poliwhirl at the same time. Shun was amazed by the will of this Sandshrew.. His determination and inner-fight would make a perfect addition to his team of Pokemon. Poliwag, seeing his skin was so flexible, took minor damage.. As Squirtle was sent into the tree yet again, this time he was down for the count as spirals came to his eyes.

Shun stomped his foot, running over to Squirtle's side. "Poliwag..! Keep up with Sandshrew.. I have to heal Squirtle..!" Shun yelled as Poliwag then got serious with Sandshrew, finally ducking the last Slash Sandshrew threw at him & countered with a few Tail Whips of his own, making Sandshrew back up a bit.

"Squirtle, eat this Oran berry Dad gave us.." He said, as he held Squirtle in his arms, soon feeding him the berry. Squirtle laid, for he need a small time to rest before he continue to battle the powerful Sandshrew. Poliwag then slid back soon waiting on Shun's next command.. "Let's try something new.. Um.. Use Doubleslap, Poliwag..!" Poliwag nodded soon bringing his tail back, soon smacking Sandshrew powerfully once.. twice.. three times.. four times a charm.. as he then smack him with a fifth blow, sending him into the air.

Squirtle soon woke up as he saw Sandshrew in the air, as he looked Shun, who then smiled at him. "Squirtle.. Use Agility then use Shell Shock..!" Squirtle, though slighty injured he then jumped in the air past Sandshrew; Withdrawing into his shell again, he came down apon the Sandshrew, as they then hit the rough terrain of the plains; Pieces of earth flew around as dust filled the air, as Shun ran over to Poliwag, protecting him from the flying debris.

Yet again, like the first battle.. They waited for the debris and dust to clear as Shun coughed a bit. "Come on, Squirt.."

Shun, eyes closed, felt the debris go past.. As the dust began to clear yet again, Squirtle laided on top of the now beaten Sandshrew, his eyes spiraling. Squirtle withdrew from his shell, spinning off of the Sandshrew as Shun then approached it. "Good battle, Squirtle.. We really pushed this Sandshrew to the limit.. We should help it.." Shun said, soon picking it up. Later on that night...

Shun set up a bond fire and a camp for that night.. He washed up near a small creek, he feed all the Pokemon herbal berries to replenish and help them heal up faster. Shun sat by the fire, looking into it, thinking about his mother... What would life be like if she was still alive? Would Shun feel happier with both of us parents in life..? He turnt around to see Sandshrew awakening as Squirtle and Poliwag were sleep in the tent.

Sandshrew approached Shun, he looked pretty pissed off but noticed that he felt really good and wasn't really all that injured anymore, as he looked at his body. "Me and my buddies in the tent helped heal you, little Sandshrew.." Shun said, smiling.

The Sandshrew closed his eyes and acted kind of snooty towards the trainer. Shun laughed a bit; "No need to be angry, Sandshrew.. I really like your determination and how you pushed it to the limit, knocking out both my Poliwag and Squirtle.. Your skills are unmatched, your will is strong.. We need a Pokemon, like yourself, to be apart of our team.." Shun said, looking at Sandshrew.

The Sandshrew's eyes glistened bright blue, as he faintly smiled, then sitting down next to Shun and putting his claw out. Shun shook it, gently, as he then pulled out his Pokeball again. "Pokeball, go.." Shun said, gently tapping its head as it went inside of the Pokeball. The Pokeball.. it shaked.. it shaked.. shaked.. Ping!
